Its a Spain Thang

I just got back from watching the final of Euro 2008. It pitted Spain vs Germany. I have to say that it was a very entertaining tournament. Overall the quality of the action was very hi and very fun to watch. Of course there were some snoozers of games but overall it was good fun.

I was lucky enough to watch the game at a friends place who had HD. Why dont I have that sorted out in my own life yet?

The game wasnt too bad. The first part of the game was boring...both teams feeling each other out, seeing where things would lead! Then Spain a fantasic goal from Fernando Torres. A really beauty! The stuff happened...Ballack got some staples in the face...a yellow here...a yellow there...by the end of the game Germany gave up and it was pretty much Spains game for the taking and thats what they did.

Congrats to Spain for winning in style!

Reunionized

Last night was my hs 10 year reunion. I have to like most, it was a better experience than i thought it was going to be. I wasnt really sure what to expect. Some one i know, at her reunion there was all kinds of stuff going on. People brought their new borns (not that weird) who were next to the girl dirty dancing on the piano. And there was also a group who decided to rent a hotel room and everyone had a 'neat' experience with each other.

So who knows what was going to happen at our reunion. Well nothing much. There was what you would expect. you have a conversation with this person, the same conversation with that person and so on. You know its time to move on when there is that awkward pause when both of you are trying to think of something to say but dont have anything else to contribute and you excuse yourself to the washroom or get another drink.

Thank being said, it was a good time and it was nice to those conversations with people before things got awkward!

good luck to all those grads and wish that some of the other ones made it out!

also i dont have any pics...i figured someone would take care of it!

on a side music note...

1. just got the new coldplay...not bad...only listen to it once...but i first impression is more of the same, so if you like coldplay, which i do...get it. by far the best album cover of the year!

coldplay-viva la vida

2. Girl Talk...i dont know much about them but i do know that they are trying the whole radiohead pay as you want system. I decided to give it a try and i do like there music. It is a mash up of all kinds of music and its pretty sweet but it comes with a warning. you must crank it up to appreciate it...

girl talk-play your part pt. 1

pc...until the next reunion (or maybe a little sooner)

ps...also euro 2008 has been pretty awesome...check out bobby mcmahons blog...the link is posted further down my page...he has good review/analysis of the games and a quote of the day...thats the best part of my day...reading that quote...

Trevor Linden retires

Well...I knew that this day was going to come but I suppose like so many other Canuck fans, we didnt believe that it would. I know that I have blogged about this before on the last day of the Canucks regular season but I am still in shock about the fact that there will be no more Trevor Linden. He was one of my idols growing up and still is. I wanted to be like him.

My one everlasting hockey fantasy was Trevor and I would be going on a 2 on 1 in the old Coliseum, he would pass to me, I would fake and then pass back and he would tap it into an empty net for the game winner.

I will also never forget the cup run of 94. Him and Captain Kirk were unbelievable. I also remember that my friend Al was able to predict the games results and he called every game of the playoff run. Damn him for predicting game 7 correctly!

I would like to say thank you so much to the only Canuck Captain in my heart. I still have my Linden for Rookie of the Year button too!

A New Day

Today I browsed the Arsenal website and came across this. Its the new first choice jersey for the Gunners. I have to say that at first glance, it is not the greatest but its not the worst either. I know that it will grow on me and that I will want to own one. ha! I still think the one that they wore the past two seasons are the best ones that they have ever had. I suppose thats why I am hesitant about the new one.

One a side but somewhat related note. Euro 2008 has started. The only really cracker of a game was Holland 3 Italy 0. I like that final. I am not a fan of Italian football. France bored to a draw. Honestly that is the team that I am cheering for. They have some of my favorite past Arsenal players of all time, Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieria. Oh Spain just scored on the Ruskies 2 nill. Thats it for now.

Hockey Night Horro

The theme song to Hockey Night In Canada on the CBC has now left the building. Who ever runs the show over there should be fired. It seems a little weird that next hockey season, Saturday nights wont run with same sound. Idiots!

And it was also announced that TSN will now have the song. It all seems wrong...CBC has the tradition, so it needs the traditional song. TSN is the new boy on the block...therefore they should have a new song, not the other way around. I feel the same way about this as I do about the dark jersey's being the home jersey's! I hate it!!!

On another note...Canada finally gets the iphone. Ships on July 11th...finally....

Glowin In the Dark

Last night I went to the spectacle that was the Glow In The Dark tour featuring Kanye West, Rihanna, NERD and Lupe Fiasco. It was quite the show I have to admit. There was about 20, 000 screaming people crammed into Gm Place with their Kanye look a like sun glasses and neon shirts.

First up was Lupe Fiasco. I dont know much about him but the chicks in front of us where going going crazy for him, so he must of been pretty good. His rhymes were good and he got the crowd off to a good start. (no pic, cell camera pic didnt turn out too well)
  1. The Coolest
  2. Go Go Gadget Flow
  3. Paris, Tokyo
  4. Hello/Goodbye
  5. Little Weapon
  6. Hip-Hop Saved My Life
  7. Streets On Fire
  8. Fighters
  9. Day Dreamin'
  10. Kick, Push
  11. Superstar
Next up was NERD. For those who dont know who that is. It is Pharrell's band with Neptunes partner Chad Hugo ( who i dont think that i saw). There were loud and full of energy. They had two drummers and a video screen and had the crowd hyped. I have been a huge neptunes fan for a long time. I love how the produce tracks by using real musicians and not synth. I thought that they were on and it was awesome to see one of the world's largest producers play. Also the best part of the night was when they brought chicks from the crowd to dance on stage. They were doing things that I am sure theirs mom's would of been proud of...as if...any ways, one of them fell of the stage while dancing and all Pharrell could say while singing was, 'oh sh!t, oh sh!t'

01 - Anti-Matter
02 - Babydoll
03 - Brain
04 - Spazz
05 - Everyone Nose
06 - She Wants To Move
07 - Rock Star
08 - Lap Dance
09 - Interlude (Drum-Off)
10 - Seven Nation Army (White Stripes Cover)

The Last of the opening bands was Rihanna. I suppose that she is probably the largest female artist in the world right now. She had some interesting costumes and she is very attractive. I dont know her too well other than her radio hits. The best part of the opening artist is that you heard only the hits and that really gets the crowd going. She definitely had the crowd singing and dancing for her. Again lots of energy and kept the crowd going strong for the main act. Also she did a medley of a MIA song and a Lauryn Hill song.

  1. Breakin' Dishes
  2. Paper Planes (MIA)/ Doo Wop (Lauryn Hill)
  3. Break it Off
  4. Shut Up and Drive
  5. SOS
  6. Hate That I Love You
  7. Unfaithful
  8. Don't Stop the Music
  9. Umbrella
Okay, so now the main act. it was already a long night and finally we got to see Kanye. I would have to say that his show was very cool. It was more like a rap opera or a performance piece. It had a concept and theme. It was something that I had never seen before. He had a huge dance stage and he basically was a solo show. No dancers to mix the scene up, just pure Kanye. Good show...well worth it.
1. "Good Morning"
2. "I Wonder"
3. "Heard 'Em Say"
4. "Through the Wire"
5. "Champion"
6. "Get 'Em High"
7. "Diamonds From Sierra Leone"
8. "Can't Tell Me Nothing"
9. "Flashing Lights"
10. "Spaceship"
11. "All Falls Down"
12. "Gold Digger"
13. "Good Life"
14. "Jesus Walks"
15. "Hey Mama"
16. Cover of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'"
17. "Stronger"
18. "Homecoming"
19. "Touch the Sky"

Los Campesinos + Plaza Club = Modular Dancing

My sister and I just got back from seeing Los Campesinos at the Plaza (as the title says!) and I have to say that it was what I expected. They were full of energy and played with lots of gusto and where quite catchy.

If you havent heard of them, you should go and seek some of their songs. It reminded me of being at a really good house party and these guys and gals were playing their hearts out for the people. We Say Party and You say Die opened for them and joined them on stage for the last song of the main set.

It was not a very full club. I would say it had about 150 people there who got to see Los Camp's do their thang. and you got to see mod kids dance to their hearts content... i feel so mod therefore i dance mod!

edit: i forgot the best part of the show...it was the drummer running off stage putting his shirt back on and getting back to the merch table. Now thats rock n roll!

also here is a setlist from another show but looks fairly similar to ours...

  1. broken heartbeats
  2. dont tell me to do the maths
  3. death to los campesinos!
  4. this is how you spell.......
  5. drop it doe eyes
  6. tweexcore
  7. knee deep at atp
  8. my year in lists
  9. frontwards
  10. we are accelarated reader
  11. .....and we exhale
  12. Box Elder (short Pavement cover)
  13. you! me! dancing!
  14. we throw parties
  15. sweet dreams

Go Canada

I have just finished watching the Canada vs Brazil soccer game from last night in Seattle. Had I been more on the ball, I would of gone to the game. How often do Brazil come that close to your home with a more or less full strength squad. I didnt even know that the game was going on until about two weeks ago.

As for the game, i think that Canada could of actually won the game. I think that the turning point was when one of the Canadian players has a breakaway but chipped the ball wide. At that point it would of been 2-1 Canada going into the half but it ended up the reverse. So from then on Canada was playing catch up, 2-1, 2-2, 3-2...final.

The Canadian team has nothing to be ashamed of. They did very good, showed well and took the Brazilians all the way. Good for them.

Here is another link.

on a side note...rip L.B.
