Show Me Your...MADGE!

Well...100 posts...I honestly didnt think that I would make it this long! Who woulda thunk it!

Anyways, my story that I wanted to tell. On any normal day, I am awaken to Jack FM coming onto the radio. Most days I hope that Livin On A Pair will wake me up. This time, I was woken up to the news that there was more Madonna tickets on sale for the show. I sprung outta bed and ran to computer and bought me some tix!

So the show...Madonna didnt get on stage until 915 but she did manage to entertain 55,000 people with a two hour set. She played a lot of her fav songs and remixed or redid a lot of them too! She definetly puts on an awesome show. I would say that it was worth it for sure...I have some pics that I need to get off my phone and then I will post them!

One last thing...I saw some of the dirtiest looking 40 year olds ever. I think they reliving 1986 but without their 1986 charm!

Stone Temple Pilots and my 1996 flashback

Well to mark the end of summer, a friend of mine and I went to see Stone Temple Pilots last night at GM Place. It was remarkable how much these guys look exactly like they did in 1996. If you took a picture and from then and took one now and put them side by side, you wouldnt know the difference.
I was worried that the band would sound like shit or that they would show up super late. But neither happened so that was really good. It was a rockin show and the people there showed up to show their love for the band.

Overall I liked the show and I heard all the songs I wanted to see. It was obvious that Scott Weiland loves being a rock star. His movement around the stage was straight outta the Mick Jagger playbook. And the bassist ____ Deleo, was staight outta the how to look like a rock star on an arena stage playbook. But with that said, I really enjoyed the show and was glad to at least see them once in my life!

On another note....school starts on the other side of this very weekend...wow...the summer went fast...i suppose that the weather was telling us its time to go back though!

Set list

'Rain down on me' - Radiohead in Raincouver

Radiohead played tonight at T-Bird Stadium. This would be the 3rd or 4th time that I have managed to see them play. I have never been disapointed with the show that they put on!

I think that it was the first time that I had ever gone to a sold out show their. It was a very rainy night but that didnt stop the awesomeness. It was a good time and they played loads of songs from pretty much their whole catalog. The light show was great,

the banter was fun and the crowd was pretty into it. the only thing is i wish that i was able to get a radiohead water bottle. sold out quickly! all in all, i am really glad that i made it out to the show, even if we missed the first song trying to get their! If you ever get the chance go!

LIVE NATION LICKS BIG ONES but the music was awesome

As you can tell by the title of this particular blog, I was really not that happy with Live Nation, the promoters of the Pemberton Music Festival. I was going to write this really long and drawn out blog about how bad the festival was. But this is what I am going to do...only complain a little.

The GOOD:

- The Lillooet Nation playing traditional songs at the end of Sunday after Coldplay
- NIN
- Tom Petty
- Jay Z....amazingly good...best of the weekend
- Black Mountain
- Interpol
- Coldplay
- NERD
- Death Cab For Cutie
- Sam Roberts Band (the two songs a actually got to see!)
- My Morning Jacket
- the fact that I got to stay in Whistler instead of the crap hole known as tent city
- i found my cousin on the last day after searching for two whole days
- the family that let us park on their lawn for free b/c some let them park on their lawn in Florida and she really wanted to screw the promoter
- i'll add anything i can think of later...

The Bad:

- the Hip...started strong...then Gord just stared to yell alot
- the Barcadi tent had three hour lineup...that meant no Chromeo, DJ Shawdow...etc
- Parking was an hour walk away from the site
- RCMP didnt do much to help the traffic situation

The Ugly:

- the lack of proper organization
-the fact that the papers said it was not as bad as it was...
- the average of 4 hours in traffic
- you could catch a shuttle for the airport/parking to the site without having to push people out of your way
- LIVE NATION
- $7 pepsi's
- that lack of training for the poor volunteers
- the lawlessness that was going on

But other than all of that...it will take a lot for me to go to this thing again...I will be going to the Whistler Music Festival instead...thats if they have another one again...I heard no one was at that one b/c everyone was poor from buying tickets for Pembie....

BUT the music saved the show...live music will always out trump shitty everything else...

Glowin In the Dark

Last night I went to the spectacle that was the Glow In The Dark tour featuring Kanye West, Rihanna, NERD and Lupe Fiasco. It was quite the show I have to admit. There was about 20, 000 screaming people crammed into Gm Place with their Kanye look a like sun glasses and neon shirts.

First up was Lupe Fiasco. I dont know much about him but the chicks in front of us where going going crazy for him, so he must of been pretty good. His rhymes were good and he got the crowd off to a good start. (no pic, cell camera pic didnt turn out too well)
  1. The Coolest
  2. Go Go Gadget Flow
  3. Paris, Tokyo
  4. Hello/Goodbye
  5. Little Weapon
  6. Hip-Hop Saved My Life
  7. Streets On Fire
  8. Fighters
  9. Day Dreamin'
  10. Kick, Push
  11. Superstar
Next up was NERD. For those who dont know who that is. It is Pharrell's band with Neptunes partner Chad Hugo ( who i dont think that i saw). There were loud and full of energy. They had two drummers and a video screen and had the crowd hyped. I have been a huge neptunes fan for a long time. I love how the produce tracks by using real musicians and not synth. I thought that they were on and it was awesome to see one of the world's largest producers play. Also the best part of the night was when they brought chicks from the crowd to dance on stage. They were doing things that I am sure theirs mom's would of been proud of...as if...any ways, one of them fell of the stage while dancing and all Pharrell could say while singing was, 'oh sh!t, oh sh!t'

01 - Anti-Matter
02 - Babydoll
03 - Brain
04 - Spazz
05 - Everyone Nose
06 - She Wants To Move
07 - Rock Star
08 - Lap Dance
09 - Interlude (Drum-Off)
10 - Seven Nation Army (White Stripes Cover)

The Last of the opening bands was Rihanna. I suppose that she is probably the largest female artist in the world right now. She had some interesting costumes and she is very attractive. I dont know her too well other than her radio hits. The best part of the opening artist is that you heard only the hits and that really gets the crowd going. She definitely had the crowd singing and dancing for her. Again lots of energy and kept the crowd going strong for the main act. Also she did a medley of a MIA song and a Lauryn Hill song.

  1. Breakin' Dishes
  2. Paper Planes (MIA)/ Doo Wop (Lauryn Hill)
  3. Break it Off
  4. Shut Up and Drive
  5. SOS
  6. Hate That I Love You
  7. Unfaithful
  8. Don't Stop the Music
  9. Umbrella
Okay, so now the main act. it was already a long night and finally we got to see Kanye. I would have to say that his show was very cool. It was more like a rap opera or a performance piece. It had a concept and theme. It was something that I had never seen before. He had a huge dance stage and he basically was a solo show. No dancers to mix the scene up, just pure Kanye. Good show...well worth it.
1. "Good Morning"
2. "I Wonder"
3. "Heard 'Em Say"
4. "Through the Wire"
5. "Champion"
6. "Get 'Em High"
7. "Diamonds From Sierra Leone"
8. "Can't Tell Me Nothing"
9. "Flashing Lights"
10. "Spaceship"
11. "All Falls Down"
12. "Gold Digger"
13. "Good Life"
14. "Jesus Walks"
15. "Hey Mama"
16. Cover of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'"
17. "Stronger"
18. "Homecoming"
19. "Touch the Sky"

Los Campesinos + Plaza Club = Modular Dancing

My sister and I just got back from seeing Los Campesinos at the Plaza (as the title says!) and I have to say that it was what I expected. They were full of energy and played with lots of gusto and where quite catchy.

If you havent heard of them, you should go and seek some of their songs. It reminded me of being at a really good house party and these guys and gals were playing their hearts out for the people. We Say Party and You say Die opened for them and joined them on stage for the last song of the main set.

It was not a very full club. I would say it had about 150 people there who got to see Los Camp's do their thang. and you got to see mod kids dance to their hearts content... i feel so mod therefore i dance mod!

edit: i forgot the best part of the show...it was the drummer running off stage putting his shirt back on and getting back to the merch table. Now thats rock n roll!

also here is a setlist from another show but looks fairly similar to ours...

  1. broken heartbeats
  2. dont tell me to do the maths
  3. death to los campesinos!
  4. this is how you spell.......
  5. drop it doe eyes
  6. tweexcore
  7. knee deep at atp
  8. my year in lists
  9. frontwards
  10. we are accelarated reader
  11. .....and we exhale
  12. Box Elder (short Pavement cover)
  13. you! me! dancing!
  14. we throw parties
  15. sweet dreams
