Travis

Hello Blog readers,

I just got back from seeing Travis at the Centre for Performing Arts. What a great venue to see a show. i took a few pics with my camera phone...not the greatest phone but there are some cool shots in there...

A few highlites from the show:

- the came onto the show to the them song from rocky, dressed in boxing robes
- fran, the lead singer played a song unplugged with just his voice. by this i mean he de-amped his guitar and sang without a mic
- they were full on energy and banter
- the guitarist andy went into the crowd during one song to play his solo
- a guy started to yell out about how the band gave free tickets to this old japanese couple. turned out that they were old friends of fran's mom. the ladies name was dot and he asked if they liked the show. the cute couple seemed slightly embarrassed
- they did a cover of the weight by the band
- sing and why does it always rain on me and writing to reach you were very strong songs
- thats all i can think of right now...

Sia in Vancouver

Well...since I didnt get called again, i might as well write something down on the good ol'blog.

last night i went to see Sia play at the media club with alli, adam, ian and tom. both adam and tom had never heard of sia and didnt know what to expect. i think that they both left the show wondering how such a big voice can come out of that tiny girl ( toms own words).

As for the show it was amazing, allison and i ran into sia and her bud david as we were going into the show and she signed a poster for us. and then later on before the song destiny, she gave up props. it was quite fun...

she played old stuff but mostly new stuff...please go out and buy her stuff...its worth it...she is one of my fav singers all time...

set list...

buttons
little black sandals
lentil
day to soon
the co-dependant
sunday
destiny
breathe me
the girl you lost to cocaine
you have been loved
academia
electric bird
distractions

it was 1996 again

On tuesday night, Al and I went to see Chris Cornell at the Centre. Holy shit it was amazing. We were row 3 and it was out of control. he played temple of the dog, soundgarden, solo and audioslave stuff and him and his band killed it. if i am never able to see the real soundgarden, this was a close second. he was so intense and into the show. he even came into the crowd to sing hunger strike...so good...so good...it was almost like 1997 again! n

Sia is coming to Vancouver

I am so happy because I just bought myself tickets to see an amazing singer named Sia. She sings in a band called Zero 7 and she also has some amazing solo stuff. Her last tour, she didnt come to Vancouver because there wasnt enough label support to play in Canada. But i guess that things are different this time around and I am so glad. I did manage to see her on the tour before that. I met her after the show and had my picture taken with her. I also have seen her twice with Zero 7. Please come out and see her. It will be a good time! Here is a new song from her upcoming album...

Sia- Buttons

A long Weekend

This past weekend, I had a family excursion down to Seattle and back with my family. We dont get out as a unit now that much, so it was nice to head someone. We definetly like to shop and eat and complain, I didnt expect much else.

I started a new job of sorts. I have a month long position at a high school in vancouver. It had been interesting to see how other school work and manage their stuff. It has been going well so far but its only monday!

For the long weekend we went to Canmore for Justin and Jill's wedding. It was done very well. They planned everything perfectly and it was awesome. Tom, Anna, Allison and I drove out to Canmore from Vancouver. It was a great drive. We stayed in Revolstoke and visited the town of Field. It was a cute little stop.

Some hilites of the weekend;
- going on the hike
- the wedding
-being in the wedding party
- watching the japanese guys golfing with the whole wedding watching
- i am too tired to write anything else!

here is a good pic of the couple

1 2 3 4 and a red moon

Okay, here is a video of one of my fav artist right now and a lot of other people love her too...this is feist performance from letterman last night. she is backed up by members of broken social scene, the new pornographers, grizzly bear, mates of state(?)...please watch and enjoy

also last night was the red moon. we went to bed and then set the alarm for 3:10 am, got up and went to the alley and watched it get redder and redder. it was something to see...and it gave the sky a reddish hue... hopefully my pics do it some justice!

What a Douche

I was out with Allison today and we were waiting in line at a store. We seemed to hit the busy period and there was only two cashiers and a lot of people in line. Well this one guy, Tom, yells at one cashier to find someone else b/c he is tired of waiting. The cashier probably felt bad that people were waiting and asked for some one to jump on the register. The new cashier asked to help the next person in line. Well good ol' Tom decided that was him, even though he was about fifth in line.

here is a replay...

new cashier:'can i help the next person in line please'
tom (as he is moving past other people): ' i am. well i am because i asked for the new cashier'
nathan: ' why dont you just relax buddy. we're all waiting too (dick).'

well he gets up there and then he seems to be having trouble paying for his adidas runners at winners. i try to listen in...

new cashier:' im sorry sir, you cant use this card'
tom:'i use it all the time'
nc:'but it is a womans name on the card'
tom:' its my mothers card, i use it all the time, i have never had a problem with it'
nc:'i am sorry, i cant ring this through with this card'
tom:'put them on hold...i'll come back for them'

imagine tom saying all of this while acting indignant and his face getting redder and redder. what a fucking sketch bag and a douche.

and on top of it, he is a late 50's man who buys shit with his momma's credit card and has no other means to pay for it? do i smell a stolen credit card?

dickhead...i hate people like him...

here is a song. i typed in dickhead into the hype machine and he is what it gave me

kate nash- dickhead

my friend dave drew these pics for the movie superbad...his bro is one of the writers...and i thought that it seemed to fit with my story...

So here we are, we are the cusp of another summer. Well actually we are in summer and its a good feeling. I was thinking that this is the first time in almost ten years that I have not had a job lined up for the summer. Here is a list of jobs that I can remember that happened over the summers.

- UBC Sports Camps
- Dunbar Community Centre
- Gordon Neighbourhood House
- Varsity Grill
- Banana Republic

Thats really it for summer jobs but thats about a decades worth...

There is a new Pearl Jam box set release...here is a song from the set...

whats going on

this is not good news for arsenal.

over the last few years we have seemed to be losing all of our most important players.
2 years ago it was patrick vieira
last year it was dennis bergkamp and
robert pires
and now thierry henry

i fear that the manager arsene wenger will soon follow...it leaves me thinking that things may not be looking good for the gunners....

how many...

today, i helped my cousin move a few things out of his condo into his in laws. its kinda there until, well not kinda but it is there until he gains possession of his new house in exactly one week today.
thats not really the exciting part, the exciting part for us was string, notice not rope, stringing up his box spring to the top of the in laws explorer. i suppose it was rigged up pretty good but we still felt the need to try and extend our arms out the windows and hold on the box spring. i guess it must of looked funny, 2 chinese guys holding onto a boxspring through car windows. i know that we got a few funny looks!

here is my song for the next while...its been out for a while but i just started to get into it....

Schools Out...

Right now, I am here at school doing this blogg thing. I have to say this maybe the best time of the school year. Its so peaceful and quiet and you can take you time and not have to make split second decisions that affect the rest of the year.

What have I done today?

- move a stationary bike out of the weight room into the hall
- move table tennis tables from the smallgym to the caf storage room
- collect and wash and sort misc bibs
- eat a jamacan pattie for the first time
- talk in the half for about 1.5 hours

Its team good times over here...

uhm..no...(click)

here is how i feel about this...how about i call you during your dinner break after you have been bothering people for about 4 hours of your life. maybe i can pester you with my own homemade survey that no one wants to do or cares about. i know that they are just doing there job but call some other time cause i aint ever gonna be home for this shitty survey...

waiting

right now i am waiting for the telus dude or dudette to show up and take care of my internet problem. how can i post you ask? well i am leeching free internet off of some dudes wireless. its a good gig for the most part but it cuts in and out and i dont have much patience for it anymore.

the best part of this is that the say...'we can book an appointment between 4-8pm on monday. how does that sound?'

my response...' well thats sounds really fucking stupid because i have to sit and wait for 4 hours. who knows when you are going to actually show up. should i prepare dinner for the person too because that seems like thats when they will show up.'

okay so i didnt say that to the person but thats what i felt like saying.

maybe i will add on to this post once the person actually shows up...

actually i can tell you that we rented stranger than fiction starring will ferrell. its a very good movie and he does a very good job in it. very different than his character in old school. i dont know which character i like more...old school was an excellent movie...

All Black and Mike

I just finished watching the Canadian National Rugby Team play vs. The All Blacks of New Zealand. My buddy Mike Burak was playing in the game. I thought that he had a strong game but the score was 61-13 for NZ. I thought that Canada had burst of good rugby but they made a few mistakes at crucial times. They didnt make use of their posession. So from that end, they could of done better. Having said that they played their hearts out and did themselves proud!

edit: here are some promo video's that i saw on the score that i thought that i would share with you! enjoy...

Cable

As a product of the 80's and 90's, TV has been an important staple in my life. Its where I can catch up on the news of the news of the day, like Paris Hilton going back into jail 'mommy!' but it is also where i can see the same sports highlights all day and night.

Seeing that I didnt have cable for about a week, I realized that I do need cable. Channel CBC (2) and Global (8) just didnt cut it. I need my 60 channel universe (until I get HDTV). Now that I have it, guess what the first channel I put on. Thats right straight the CEEB, quickly followed to the Score so I could watch King James dunk on some dudes head!

I guess thats it for now. Also have you ever seen Holmes on Holmes. He saves people from crappy contractors who royally screw up home reno's. Reason I bring it up is because I think that my landlord is the perfect candidate for this show. He just tried to finish the deck, which it needed to do but he covered up the drain hole. Anyone in Vancouver right now nows that its pouring a ridiculous amount right now and now our deck has an inch of water on it. What a douche...that may be too strong a word!

Dennis Bergkamp - Guru

I know that I called Thierry Henry a genius and he is but this next person was my favorite player at Arsenal

Dennis Bergkamp.

This video clip is of his best goal that I ever saw as it happened. I was on the beach in Thailand watching the game at 11pm thai time and was watching the game in the bar. I fell out of my chair watching this goal. Its pure class. Nothing much else to say about it.

A Bad Assed Rush Cover

I really love this song

the bad plus - tom sawyer

listen and enjoy

Also last night I watched the first half of ' Tenacious D- The Pick of Destiny ' and i flippin loved the opening scene with li' fat jack black. that might of been the best opening scene of any movie that i have ever seen with my own two eyes. that kid was the best example of why they have casting agents for movies. that kids was awesome.

also speaking of movies...i am looking forward to the enw TRANSFORMERS movies...ah to be an 80's kid...'robot in disguise'...
