A few Things

I havent been blogging as frequently lately. I have been doing a few things lately. I completed the sun run and was hurtin for about three days. i cant believe how much older i feel now. before it would of been one day of hurt and then normal. i was literally paralyzed for three days. amazing! time stops for no one i suppose!!!

a few other things...

1. I decided that I should get a new hockey jersey...

He has always been my fav player but it was time to honour that in proper fashion! Now I too can wear my jersey down Robson street on a hot summers day!

what a prediction? trevor will play next year if there is no vignault.

2. Radiohead - All I Need video...it is a very emotionally striking video...you MUST watch!

3. T set a new record on the Wii. He somehow managed to go 9 for 10 in the homer run derby. He smashed the distance record as well. damn...time to start practicing again...

Finally...they announced that iphone is coming to rogers as well as the nokia n95...which one will do better?

Another New Era for Canucks fans

well...i was really surprised by the firing of dave nonis and thought that it was a bad idea. i really didnt think that the canucks were that far from being a very good team. but upon a further look, i thought that the team is a bit soft and if you look at hows doing well in the playoffs now and historically, they are full of highly skilled canadian players. that is what we need.

enter mike gillis. i hope that he works out...he talks tough but can he walk the talk? if he doesnt, i can hear the wheels falling off the band wagon now! maybe i'll be able to go to a nucks game again!

tell me what you think?

also...i have been watching this political scandal with the tories being busted for overspending. i wonder how this will get spinned.

What I bought that I didnt really need

I have just completed the purchase of this show poster for one of my fav artist Sia.
I have this thing for buying stuff that I really dont need. But at the same time, I thought that it was a cool looking poster and I asked A what she thought and she it was cool. That means when it shows up some time in the next few weeks I can put it up in the house! Even though I didnt attend this particular show, I got the poster anyways...I saw her on the same tour at least! And she is coming to Pemberton as well.

Just a Quickie

Just so you know...two of the most critically acclaimed artist are coming to town for the summer.

Feist is coming to town, Deer Lake Park later in the summer, Aug 5th I believe!
I saw play last year at the Orpheum last year. She is an amazing performer and has one the most lovely voices you have ever heard live. I can only imagine what a warm summers night would be like listening to her play her stuff!

Here is a little track that you just may like! It is quite fun and perfect as we move into the spring and summer months!

Feist - SeaLion (Chromeo Remix)

The Next concert that I found out about is Radiohead. They are coming to Thunderbird Stadium towards the end of August. I think that this will be an amazing show that will loads of fun. I think that the last time I saw them was at the same venue and although its a fun place to see them, I wish that they played an arena or something smaller and more intimate. None the less, I will be looking forward to seeing them play and am glad that they are finally coming here again!

Also in case if you havent heard, they have created a remix site, where you can purchase portions of the track 'Nude' and remix it yourself. They have created a website where you can post it and see how it stacks up against the rest!

Here is the Radiohead track that I am into right now...and its live

Radiohead - Bangers N' Mash (live)

Also I have just found this sweet video of them playing it live in a studio. I have seen Thom Yorke play guitar, piano and just plain ol' wail but now he plays the drums and sings...I usually hate on singing drummers (ala Don Henley) but this is pretty sick! Click here.

Okay...fairly long for a quickie!

ps...i will try and do something with the website as well!

edit...you gotta check this out...who would of known that rock and hockey do mix?! click here

The End of An Era?

Last night I watched the Canucks game. It has been a long season and a very trying one as a Canuck fan. Expectations were high this year, especially coming off of division title and going two round into the playoffs last year.

I suppose there are many factors that lead the Canucks to be a bust this year. But the fact remains that they didnt qualify for the playoffs and that should be considered nothing more than a major disappointment.

Anyways back to the reason I watched the game. It seemed that for many in attendance and those watching the game on tv, it appeared that this may have been Trevor Linden's final game as a Canuck and as a NHL player. He recieved a few standing o's and at the end of the game

and in what was a very classy move by Jerome Iginla and The Flames, the entire team came over and shook Trev's hand. Finally he was made the first star in a game in which his team lost 7-1. He took of lap around the rink and looked like he was savouring the moment.

My favorite Trevor Linden moment that I ever witnessed was being at Game 6 of the Calgary series in 1994. I was at the game with Rob and Lanny and we watched the game from about midway up the blues at the old Pacific Coliseum. It was overtime and Trevor scored to send the series to game 7. The place was crazy and it was definetly a game that I will never forget. I still even have my Trevor Linden for Rookie of the year in 1989!

The guy is a legend and has been one of my favorite players and shall always remain that way in my memory. I suppose that when he retires from playing, the Canucks would be stupid if they didnt offer him a job in management, ala Steve Yzerman (my other fav player) in Detroit. He seems destined to be in the game for years to come.

Good luck to Trevor Linden and thanks for the memories (if this is the end?!)

A Chromeo Show: The Good & The Bad

Guest post by Schrodes

This past Thursday night Chromeo came to Vancouver to funk up the Commodore. To be honest, I was pretty excited. However, the show
in general wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either.

Here's why: my stupid gay husband's disc jockey. Since when does an opener get to rock a hour and a half set?? Know your place opening bands/DJs/performers. It was just him, in the corner, with his gear and a mandatory Apple laptop, lovin' himself. Unfortunately, amidst the crap he was outputting, he was murdering classic Nirvana and AC/DC songs. I wanted to get up on stage and close his silly macbook and just say "you're done." Furthermore, he kept saying these stupid little comments: "is it 11 already? sorry i'm raving away here" and "chromeo will be comin up soon guys!" and he'll then continue to play for another 30 minutes. I was gunna spazz. I was losin' it. Had to get another beer.

Anyways, on to the good: when Chromeo finally came on they were awesome. And thankfully they knew it was time and didn't waste a moment getting onto stage. They were awesome though - did I already say that? Chromeo are just two dudes but they have a good stage presence. I respect what they're doing too because they lay down the singing and funky guitar busts and all that stuff live, whereas they could just hit the play button and dance, milli-vanilli style. For some parts I thought they could play a little more but P-Thugg's talkbox with his keys against Dave-1's geetar solos was toyt.

And they would switch up instruments with ease to (with both guys playing bass when they needed too). Dave-1's guitar was super nice too. Classic black Les Paul. Solid. They didn't play too long but that seems to be their style after looking at some setlists on the net. What I really enjoyed seeing is that it looked like they were having a good time. Dave-1 was smiling while bustin the licks and that's cool when an artist is loving the show and showing it too -- not being all super serious like Eddie Vedder does (hah -- had to get that one in there Na). The setlist was good... kept the crowd going... surprising to see crowd surfing but that's cool.

They played all the hits but could've thrown in a few more tunes. They ended the night with "100%" which is a good song but I thought they'd end it a little more explosively (100% is pretty relaxed for them).

So, to summarize:
My gay DJ - no good
Chromeo - awesome

Thanks go out to Na for allowing an amateur post on a professional blog. :-D

Vedder with a slice of Finn

I have just returned from the Centre, where I saw Eddie Vedder play his very first solo show. It was an amazing show. The venue was top notch, the sound was great, the song selection was great and the seats weren't so bad either! I had row 11 seats on the very right of the stage. I was feeling a little bitter about them because these are fan club seats and people who joined about two weeks ago were sitting in better seats than i was (member since 95). But once the show started, I forgot about that and enjoyed it to the max.

Liam Finn is definitely an awesome performer/entertainer. His solo set was very good and full of layered music. When he comes back to town, I am going to try and see him again. He was the perfect way to open up the show and warm the crowd up.

Eddie was next up and he played PJ songs, cover songs and Into The Wild songs. Al asked to yell out for Porch but I didnt have to b/c he played it! I dont really remember the set list but I am sure that I will find out that info soon enough! I will post once that info becomes available. The versions of Hide Your Love Away, Wont Back Down and Hard Sun were killer!

The only thing that bothered me was that people where yelling out stupid shit during that show. There were asking for songs that would never be played in this venue. During a show like this, you appreciate the singers voice, listen and then cheer like crazy not sing so loud that now I cant enjoy the voice. Some people failed to realize that this was an intimate show and was not gonna be like seeing Pearl Jam at GM Place! tards...

It was ten years ago

okay so the title may be a little incorrect but seeing that it has been almost a decade since i graduated high school...i thought that i would head down memory lane and see what i could come up with.

there are the obvious things like teams and trips and all of that but one of my fav memories had to of been the time we recorded as song to be put on our friends cd. it seemed like a great idea. but was it? listen to the song and let me know!

we recorded at Horton Home Studios. Wakefield and the Marshmellowmen consisted of Taco on vocals, Pablo and Jose on guitars and Burrito on drums. I believe that Pepe was there for moral support and was our sound engineer (pressing record on the ghetto blaster).

I think that we attempted and successfully recorded the song three times. This version we had to unplug Jose's guitar so Taco could sing. What would happen is we would plug it back in after the singing was done but we forgot! Oh well.

The recording was so shitty that when our friends Search for Utopia went to put it on the cd, they had to slow it down. It resulted in a not so friendly sounding recording. Well through the magic of computers, I have managed to speed the recording back to its original speed and its original glory!

I hope that you enjoy!
